These big beautiful flowers...I found just plain weird when I first saw them. Bright red, an odd fabric, huge, in the middle of a small plaza. Not necessarily ugly, but seemingly out of place. Until I heard what they were all about. In a neighborhood (right across from the shuk) were things were run down, static, and not very lively at the time, someone thought of this wonderfully beautiful and practical idea. They bloom when they detect movement beneath them. In blossoming the can provide shelter from the rain, or shade from the sun. But within that movement, it creates a constantly shifting thing, adaptable, relatable structure in a dry neighborhood. Quite a lovely concept, no?
